Dr. Trilokya Nath Shrestha, Dr. Ram K. Raut and Mr. Prem Yonjon were responsible for the implementation, supervision and monitoring of the project activities.

NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

An income generating project, "Off-season vegetable production along the Arniko Highway", launched to benefit some 2500 farming households spread over 29 Village Development Committee (VDCs) and three Municipalities of Kavre and Sindhupalchowk district. The major objective of the project was to involved women from some 2500 households to generate additional income within the range of NRs. 10,000-15,000 per annum by means of off-season vegetable production and, through this, also to improve the nutritional status of the participating households. Marketing of vegetables was promoted through formation of farmers’ cooperatives that also distribute inputs to the farmers.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

CEAPRED staff sensitized and motivated farmers to form production groups for off-season vegetable production. CEAPRED staff also trained members of production groups and cooperatives on production planning, post harvest handling and marketing management Overall responsibilities include group formation, training, planning, networking of groups and strengthening of the cooperatives.
