Mr. Indra Raj Panday is the Project Coordinator responsible for the implementation, supervision and monitoring of the project activities.

NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

The overall objective of the project is to reduce poverty and social tension through quick income generation in remote areas of Nepal by promoting production and marketing of vegetable seeds in remote and conflict affected areas with special focus on deprived communities and families. The project envisages to provide option for income generation and sustainable economic growth to farmers of remote and conflict affected areas and thereby contribute to poverty reduction and local development. The project aims at involving and encouraging poor and marginalized groups and families(very poor farmers, women-headed households, Dalit, conflict-affected and displaced people) in vegetable seed production. The project is expected to avail easy and timely access to quality seeds at reasonable cost to the fresh and off-season vegetable growing farmers of more accessible areas and the traders of vegetable seeds from their involvement in collection, transportation and marketing of vegetable seeds.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

  • Mobilise, organise and technically train 6514 farmers in different aspects of production, post harvest handling, storage and marketing of vegetable seeds.
  • Establish model farms at different agro-climatic zones to produce necleur and source seeds and to sustain seed production activities.
  • Produce and market at least 300 tons of different varieties of vegetables.
  • Co-operation and collaboration with other line agencies.
  • Capacity building of participating farmers through training, visits and support in infrastructure development.
  • Institutionalisation of cooperatives and farmer's groups.
