CEAPRED's Participation at the 9th National Organic Agriculture Fair, 2016

Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED) participated at 9th National Organic Agriculture Fair held at Biratnagar. The fair was expected to create mass awareness on key aspects of organic agriculture value chain – production, processing and marketing, and showcase the appropriate component technologies relevant to organic agriculture. As per Department of Agriculture decision, CEAPRED was one of the members of the central organizing committee of the event.  The fair lasted for four days (7th to 10th February, 2016). Disseminating knowledge about organic agricultural products, promoting their business, sensitizing entrepreneurs to adopt organic agriculture practices,  providing message to the farmers about its benefit and helping realize the stakeholders the need of organic agriculture system for sustainable agriculture development were the key objectivities of the event.

 

The key activities that the fair could undertake were: exhibition of organic agricultural products harvested from various parts of the country, buying and sales of organic agriculture products, soil testing and plant clinic, organic food exhibition, organic farming technology demonstration and organic agriculture information center. They became the major attractions of the fair. Farmers, agriculture entrepreneurs, students of schools and colleges, researchers, representatives from NGOs and INGOs and other stakeholders visited the event. It is estimated that a total of about 2500 visitors observed the CEAPRED stall. Hon. Agriculture Minister, Mr. Haribol Gajurel, the chief guest of the event, also observed the CEAPRED stall and interacted about CEAPRED’s working modality and its involvement in organic agriculture.
