Mr. Subhasha Nand Vaidya was involved as Project Leader and was responsible for design of the project, site selection, trainee's selection, providing training and report writing.

NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

CEAPRED replicated the community solid waste management project in the vicinity of Kumari Pati Man Bhawan area of Lalitpur. This project was funded under the NGO Environmental Management Programme (NEMP) as part of the National Conservation Strategy Implementation Program supported by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The major objectives of the project were to create awareness among household members regarding the adverse consequences of disorganized waste disposals in the street; develop community initiatives, skills and leadership, specially among women, to manage household wastes and undertake other environment protection activities; and promote sustainable management of solid waste.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

CEAPRED provided Project Leader, support staff and logistic support to the Project. The following activities were undertaken by the project:
  • Mass sensitization
  • Identification of solid wastes and recycleable wastes
  • Safe handling of solid waste
  • Income generation from solid waste
  • Distribution of community solid waste disposal bins
