PCdM project Inception Meeting held
The temperature, topography, market availability, and farmers' genuine interest in Sindhupalchowk district give a huge potential for fresh vegetable production as well as nursery sapling production. The 2015 earthquake had a severe impact in this area, resulting 40% loss in employment opportunities, and,a 30% drop in agriculture income. As a result, young people have been continuously migrating to other countries for employment. To help address these issues, ASIA and CEAPRED jointly designed a project "Support for Poverty Reduction and Improvement of Food Security through the Development of Resilience to Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture (PCdM) which is funded by Italian Government and is being implemented in Melamchi municipality of Sindhupalchowk effective from April 2021.
With an objective to develop a common understanding of the project goal among stakeholders, build harmony in project operations at field level and share resources in common activities for better output, an inception meeting was held at Melamchi in coordination with Melamchi Municipality. The project tem (CEAPRED and ASIA) facilitated the meeting and representatives from the municipality and farmers groups of the project area participated in the meeting.
