NAME OF SENIOR STAFF

Mr. Bharat P. Upadhyay, Executive Director, is responsible for overall implementation, supervision and monitoring of the project activities on behalf of CEAPRED. Mr. Mukund Regmi, Finance Manager is responsible for sub-contract fund management, Mr. Basu Upadhyaya, Senior Admin./Fin. Officer and Ms. Sushma Rajkarnikar, Asst. Admin. Officer, are responsible for Human Resource Management of the project.

NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Through offices in Kathmandu, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, and Ilam, NEAT will invest $30 million to strengthen Nepal’s trade competitiveness, expand exports and make agriculture more efficient by addressing challenges to economic growth and food security.

NEAT’s food security work will target select districts in the Mid-West and Far West regions. The program’s competitiveness, food security, and microfinance components together are expected to directly benefit over 300,000 Nepalese and NEAT’s policy components will improve the business environment, facilitate trade flows and strengthen fiscal policy, thereby indirectly impacting millions of lives.

CEAPRED is the key implementing partner for implementation of food security and value chain componnets of the project

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

  • Foster a conducive business environment for private sector led growth
  • Encourage competitiveness and exports in selected agricultural and non-agricultural commodities or services, initially targeting lentil, ginger, orthodox tea and vegetables
  • Enhance food security, focusing on select districts in the Mid-West, Far West and Western regions
  • Improve trade and fiscal policies and practices to facilitate trade and increase revenues without distorting the economy
  • Strengthen microfinance policy and institutions to increase the access of women, poor and disadvantaged to financial services
