NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
This is a research project with designed to determine the extent of use of ICT-based agriculture extension tools in the Eastern Gangetic Plains (EGP), the needs of farm advisers and farmers in terms of ICT-based agriculture extension tools and services (e.g. production decision making, climate information, price information, market information) taking into consideration the different needs of men and women and to have deeper understanding of how ICT-based services can help farmers to adopt new technologies (e.g., CA, new varieties, SRFSI-developed techniques).
The information from this study will be provided to the Sustainable and Resilient Farming Systems Intensification (SRFSI) project researchers so they can consider and incorporate the learnings in the SRFSI project sites in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. This project is expected to lead to a more rigorous evaluation of the ICT technologies and the knowledge of farmers on CA and other technologies developed in the SRFSI project as well as their impact on technology adoption, on yield and income of farmers in the EGP.
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED
Desk study and survey will be conducted. Inputs will be provided during the preparation of questionnaire for the survey. Survey will be focused on generating information related to the types of services and business models of ICT-based extension services including issues and the extent of use of ICT-based agriculture extension tools in the EGP and the needs of farm advisers and farmers in terms of ICT-based agriculture extension tools and services. Data collected will be refined and entered in SPSS. A report on review of existing ICT-based extension services in Nepal will be prepared.
