NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

The RCIW was initiated in 1995 with the assistance of World Food Programme and the German Government. The second phase of the programme commenced in 2000. The main objective of Enhancing Food Security Programme was to improve the quality of life of people in remote and rural areas (Bhumiraj and Kuwakot VDCs) by raising their income and enhance food security through the construction of rural infrastructure, provision of food aid and implementation of complimentary development activities. The program provided necessary social mobilization and technical services for the smooth implementation of RCIW in close coordination and collaboration with the DDC and the members of RCIW Users’ Groups and Users’ Committees. The program was intended to enhance food security through RCIW by providing large number of temporary job opportunities to poor people. Four-meter wide 10 Km of rural road and 2-meter wide 1.49 Km of track was constructed under the program. The program availed employment opportunities to 2260 members of 636 households.
