NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
| The study assessed the need to improve supporting services for farmers alongside irrigation programs to enhance production in agriculture. Kalikot, Dailekh, Surkhet and Banke districts were selected for the assessment study. It was found that many agricultural development policies implemented in the study area emphasized on improving irrigation programs to increase productivity without paying much attention to farmers’ needs for timely extension services, inputs, credit, and marketing and price support for their produce. As a result, productivity did not increase as expected. In viewing this problem, the study proposed a broad framework for improving supporting services in agricultural development. Various important factors such as raising awareness among users, organizing them into self-help or saving or credit groups, creating a revolving fund, establishing farmer cooperatives, and seeking assistance from NGOs to create an interdisciplinary activities were incorporated in the frame work to create an effective and sustainable agricultural development. |
