For Samjhana Chaudhari of Krishnapur-4 Kanchanpur, life has largely revolved around household responsibilities, farming, and supporting her family. Coming from a financially constrained background, she did not have the opportunity to pursue higher education. Yet, Samjhana always had the zeal to do something more and create better opportunities for herself. Her journey took a new turn when she got the opportunity to participate in 60-day Goat farming training through the Skill Up! Project. For her, the training was more than just a chance to learn a new skill. It gave her the confidence to believe that she, too, can build something of her own.

Before attending training, Samjhana had limited knowledge about goat farming practices. Through the training, she gained practical skills related to proper goat care, feed and fodder management, shed management, hygiene, disease identification, and proper ways to keep goats healthy. She began applying what she had learned in her own goat farm, making better use of the resources available at home. From improving fodder management and maintaining a cleaner shed to pay closer attention to the health of her goats, she became more confident in managing her animals.

After completing the training, Samjhana started looking at goat farming not simply as a household activity, but as a potential source of income and self-employment. She currently has 13 goats and is gradually working towards expanding her enterprise. “My plan is to increase the number of goats and gradually develop my farm into a commercial enterprise,” says Samjhan.

“My ambition is not just to expand my goat herd. I want to build a stable source of income, become financially independent, and create a better future for myself and my family. With the skills I have gained, I am determined to keep moving forward, one step at a time,” says Samjhana.

 “The training gave me a new beginning. I could not pursue higher education, but learning practical skills has helped me discover a new path and believe in what I can achieve,” says Samjhana.

“Goat farming is no longer just something I do for my household. I now see it as an opportunity to earn a better income and become more independent. I want to keep learning, grow my farm, and turn this small start into a successful business,” says Samjhana.
